The Sudbury Foundation Awards $1.89 Million in Grants in 2024
At their last meeting of 2024, the Sudbury Foundation awarded almost $240,000 in grants, bringing the year-end total for all granting to $1.89 million. This last round of awards ranged from projects within Sudbury to supporting hunger relief work throughout their catchment area.
Through the Sudbury Program, grants were awarded to the Wayside Inn for window repairs, to the Metrowest Free Medical Program for their vision clinic and to the Sudbury Historical Society to write a history of Babe Ruth’s time in Sudbury.
“We are proud to be able to continue our long-standing support of the Wayside Inn and the Sudbury Historic Society.” said Jill Stansky, Board Chair at the Sudbury Foundation. “These projects are particularly important to the Foundation because the founders of the Foundation, Herb and Esther Atkinson, ate dinner out almost every night at the Wayside Inn in the 1930's. As for Babe Ruth, when the Atkinsons moved to Sudbury, they bought Babe Ruth’s house and lived there the rest of their lives. We know the Atkinsons would be thrilled to see the Foundation support the Historical Society's endeavor to publish a book about Babe Ruth's time in Sudbury. Maintaining these important parts of Sudbury’s history allows us to honor the legacy of the Sudbury Foundation’s founders while recognizing the importance of these organizations to Sudbury.”
In addition, the Foundation was able to make a capital grant to the Acton Food Pantry to assist them as they build out a new market style food pantry and a second round of hunger relief grants to local food pantries and farms.
The $1.89 million total for 2024 includes 121 grants totaling almost $1.6 million to 83 organizations across Massachusetts and $308,000 in scholarships to 15 students studying at colleges and universities across the US. The full list of 2024 grants can be found here.
