To pilot a new curriculum and program delivery model called Bridges Arts geared toward children pre-K to Grade 2, in partnership with local libraries and utilizing senior citizens as program volunteers. The pilot will take place at Goodnow Library.

Foundation for MetroWest, Framingham, MA, $30,000
Over two years, to continue the Sudbury-based Youth in Philanthropy program, which provides local teens with an opportunity learn about grantmaking and philanthropy, for two additional years.

Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Sudbury, MA, $5,000
To enable Connections, a staff-parent-student group focused on teen substance usage, to run its 2013-2014 educational programs while developing funding strategies to pay for expanded activities going forward.

Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Sudbury, MA, $7,700
To fund a series of summer staff workshops and curriculum development efforts focused on Language-Based Learning Disabilities.

Sudbury Public Schools, Sudbury, MA, $32,150
To pilot the 1:1 technology concept with a team of 90, 6th grade students and their teachers at Curtis Middle School.

To help fund a memorial at Willis Lake in Sudbury to honor Lt. Scott Milley, the Sudbury soldier who was killed in action in 2010 while serving in Afghanistan.

To enable MLS to provide legal assistance in the coming year to an estimated 40 clients from Sudbury.

To help fund the “25%” design for the northernmost, half-mile section of the proposed Sudbury Rail Trail from the Concord border to Route 117 at Davis Field.

To fund a summer professional development workshop on Language-Based Learning Disabilities for up to 60 teachers.

To fund a training conference for Sudbury child care providers.

A $4,500 grant to fund a training conference for Sudbury child care and nursery school staff members.

A $7,500 grant to update of the Bridges intergenerational curriculum, a collaboration between Sudbury Public Schools and the Sudbury Senior Center, offered in every 4th grade classroom.

Organizational Capacity and Effectiveness Grants

A $15,600 grant to hire a development consultant to begin planning a multi-year endowment campaign.

Sudbury Public Schools, Sudbury, MA
A $10,765 grant to purchase five automatic external defibrillators to be placed in each Sudbury Public School building in order to respond to cardiac emergencies both during and after school hours.

To fund a presentation to parents and community members on How to Ensure Cyber Success by Dr. Elizabeth Englander, a prominent spokesperson on cyber-world safety.

To hire a part-time development staff member to create the Inn’s first fundraising infrastructure.

Town of Sudbury/Department of Public Works (DPW), Sudbury, MA, $37,000
To create an automated data tracking system for DPW activities that will be tied to the Town’s current GIS system. The project is a follow-up to the CORE management process funded by the Foundation in 2008 and 2009.

To support the creation of a handicapped-accessible playground and park for ages 2-5 at Sudbury’s Haskell Field in partnership with the adjacent Boundless Playground, also handicapped accessible, for ages 5-12.

Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Sudbury, MA, $2,375
To provide transitional funding for the L-S Civic Orchestra until a new fundraising mechanism is formulated.

Town of Sudbury, Sudbury, MA, $4,500
To purchase fencing and timbers to complete the handicapped-accessible playground at Haskell Field.

For a second year, to host the Longfellow Big Read, a series of community events that encourage the multi-generational reading of the poetry of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

To redesign the organization’s web site.

To support outreach activities for Sudbury’s Community Emergency Response Team.

Through the Vulnerable In-Town Populations subcommittee, to distribute a questionnaire to encourage vulnerable Sudbury residents to engage in emergency planning and to help first responders locate frail seniors and people with disabilities in the case of an emergency.

Sudbury Historical Society, Sudbury, MA $9,500
In partnership with the Sudbury Public Schools, to develop a unit of study on the history of Sudbury to enhance the third grade Colonial America curriculum and to pilot the first year of the program, which will culminate in a field trip for all third graders to historic sites in Town Center.

To help purchase a Conservation Restriction on 300 acres of the Knox Trail Council’s 450-acre Nobscot Scout Reservation. (An additional $450,000 grant was made to the project from the Foundation’s Atkinson Donor Advised Fund at Crossroads Community Foundation.)

Town of Sudbury/Ponds and Waterways Committee, Sudbury, MA $1,000
To mount and frame 10 color maps of the town’s ponds and waterways for use by and display at Sudbury’s public schools and town buildings.

Youth Development and Opportunity Grants

Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Sudbury, MA $12,250
Scholarship support for a nine-day trip to Puerto Rico that will provide 15 METCO students with an opportunity to travel, experience another culture and perform community service.

Sudbury Public Schools, Sudbury, MA $6,000
